OH went back with the Qualcast and swopped it for  a Flymo (still electric).  He said if this breaks I get the money back.  We used all evening on Mums front lawn and have taken off 30 or so large sacks so far.  Its amazing whats in there, no wonder it felt like walking on a 6" airbed.  Still along way to go yet, but thanks again for your help and interest.  Mrs.  Bouquet
