how will i know when my marrows and cucumbers will be ready?? sorry if its a silly question only im still a learner oh and hello to every one sorry ive not been on for so long been busy with my lotty and thanks for the replies (if any)

How long is a piece of string?
It's not too bad with a marrow as they will stand sitting on the plant for a bit, the only harm is slowing down the development of future fruit. With a cucumber, you're going to start losing the texture & flavour quite quickly.
My rule of thumb - is it big enough to eat? If it is - off it comes. Unlike commercial growers we don't have to wait for maximun weight & so we can benefit from more tender produce.

I agree, your avarage marrow will be about a foot and a half, your cukes, depending on variety, do better harvested earlier, also taste much nicer around a 4-5 inch size.
