we can't sex kittens, hence we have a female cat called Damien, and a male cat called Sarah, the vet was in stitches when we took them in to get done.

I use to breed guinea pigs a few years ago and if the mother had more than three babies I use leave a bowl of bread and milk diluted with water for them. Both mother and babies would then eat it.  Don't leave the bread swimming in milk though, just soggy.

We had an enourmous black and white tom cat called Ethel for similar reasons. Seemed to feel he had something to prove and used to chase dogs. They only ever took the mick out of his name once though
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Sorry to hijack your thread Daz, but can you keep chickens and guinea pigs together?
My daughter wants some guinea pigs and the only secure place for them would be with the chickens.
I don't think it would be a good idea but this thread has got me thinking again!!
Finally got the space, now just nead the girls!!

Thinking how some hens catch and eat rats and mice, it doesnt seem a very good idea. I wouldnt trust them.

Hi all,

We kept guinea pigs when our son was 5 or 6 years old.  Some fool told us that they don't breed for months so we put our very young male and female together for a while  .  Guess what, we ended up with a cage full

Someone also told us how to sex them.  Son, feeling very much the expert told his Grandma that "if you press the tummy and push down towards his bottom, if a thing pops out, it's a boy".  I could have crawled under the nearest stone but, as they say, out of the mouths of babes and all that.

Baby guinea pigs are rather gorgeous though - like little hamsters.
