Hi everyone, we have picked and eaten our first runner beans (flare) this Tuesday 15/7/08, they were about 6-8" and they were sooooooo tender.

Well done    Hope they're a good flavour    I did Painted Lady last year and I was really pleased with the taste. Some are indifferent so it pays to ask around for fave varieties

Hi compostqueen,
Flare is a really tasy runner bean which we grow at home in 4 large pots, 3 plants to a pot.  
We use a rose arch from one pot to another, for the runner beans to grow up and over, then run a second rose arch over the middle of the first rose arch into the other 2 pots, (rather like a double abor) to supports them.  

On the lottie we grow Red Rum, these to are extremely tasty, but not as yet ready to pick, though they might be ready when we are up the lottie tomorrow, they were only about 2" long last friday so who knows, fingers crossed.
