Rules for keeping a cockral??
« on: July 14, 2008, 09:54 »
Ok so I know its not ideal but my chicken hatched some eggs and now one of them is a cockral... I no he is a little noisy, but are there any rules about me keeping him in my garden? Im very attached to him and really dont want to get rid of him!

can any one shed any advice on what rules are laid down by the council etc in regards to keeping cockrals in a residential area??

I think it's down to the individual council. Check on your houses deeds/tenancy agreement...should be written somewhere if you are not allowed them. :)

You could get in bother over noise pollution if your neighbours complain to the council , you'd be better off finding him a new home IMHO.  :(
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Essex.. its very rural.. lol...

the thing is.. *rant*

this is a very rural village... and my other neighbours are lovely, they have chickens too and cockral (the brother of my cockral) BUT the others moved from london and are just not so nice... not very neighbourly! they just like to MOAN about every thing...... like horse poo, and parking and farming  smells that sort of thing... and it REALLY anoys me for example, our road used to be gravel but every one moaned and said it was messing up their cars.. so it got tarmacked and NOW they moan the traffic is too fast so we have got the biggest speed humps you have ever seen!!! it just annoys me they move to the country then CHANGE it..

I no know one asked but I wanted to say it any way lol

Dogs barking all day is so stressful particulary when you know its because its unhappy whereas a cockerel is just welcoming the dawn....

i think townies who move to the country are hilarious. although terribly annoying and silly.

they moan that it smells..... thats fresh air tarquin

hunting is animal cruelty.... ok lets let the wild bunnies eat all the crops.... see how much your food goes up then.

actually saw some up the farm a few weeks back. gates open as cows being fed, all 6 of them still clambered over the stiles instead of just walking through the open gates. we were in stitches.

and not too long ago, farmer got a letter from the council, they'd had a complaint that there were signs saying beware bull in field. muppet didnt see the bull. umm its that big thing standing over there.

they pop on their barbour jackets and hunter wellies and go walking the fields, little or no respect that although they have the right to walk there, its the farmers back yard. going to have a nosey through the windows is just rude. dont they know that they have to stick to the tracks, they cant just go anywhere.

i think any townie moving to the country should have to pass an exam.
nowt too hard, just things like thats a tree, a sheep, a deer, a tractor......

sorry rant over

It's funny you know, but I'm an ex townie, and I love living in the country, but next door are both born and bred locally, and they were asking if they would be able to smell the chickens!!!!

Not as much as you can smell the rotting cabbages that ey plough up and leave to rot in the fields!!!!!! lol  Besides, our chickens were here first, and we are a registered holding with DERA!!!!

You must ask Munty about the man who complained about the noise the seagulls made and the fact that they pooped everywhere!!!

lol babe i have to agree with you there some of the sights you see and the letters that get into  our local paper make you laff or cry. some silly folks round here (newbies) want all us horse riders to stop and pick up poo while out riding...... like i would dare with the speed of the traffic and the size of the lorries........ its a country lane and they see the 60 limit and dont think..... my biggest rant would  be the muppets taking their darlings to the riding schoool and bombing down the lane. heeloooo riding school, bridle paths jsut down  from it. horses, dog walkers kids?? on the lane of course not. I deliberatly walk in the middle of the road to be seen and only move at the last minute and in fact have been known not to move for some drivers when dog walking....... the ones who think you should jump onto the muddy wet verge and be ignored..... just a thanks from the driver and im happy to move.
sorry folks rant over

i concede grannie. its not all townies. but i only remember the ones that do the funny stuff.

you dont notice the ones who settle into it.

but i guess i must look odd in london. i hate the smell, and muck that gets up your nose. i find it scary, loud. and the people just shove you out of the way. but thats just how it is. i know i could never live there.

we all have our niche in life :D
