Out of the 12 chickens I have I am only getting 6 eggs a day.

The 5 girls over the field which must be 30 weeks by now 4 of them are laying constant and out of the 7 ex-bats I just got only 2 of them seem to be laying. we have been getting 4 but are now down to 2.

Question
Are they going off laying now because of the weather
or
Do the ex-bats just need time to re adjust.

I'm not bothered just a little concerned in case there is an Underlying problem.

Anything I should be doing?

We dont stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.

Hi Hawkins
I would imagine that it's got more to do with the weather & shorter hours of daylight than anything else :)

Are they looking ok in all other aspects?
Poops normal?
Eye's bright?

Sarah :)

Hi Sarah

Yep they all seem fine apart from the ex-bats that are very anemic looking but are slowly getting some colour. They already have twice as much colour in theire coombs etc from when they came and they are doing good poos where they used to be very runny.

Perhaps they just need time to readjust after all they have never had uch fredom and are using the worms and scraps etc to make them feel better.

I'd just keep a close eye on them & do what your doing :)

My eggies have gone down from 13 in one day in spring to 4 a day
That's down to the fact that some of the birds - geese, ducks & Guineas just don't lay all year and the hens have gone in to moult meltdown, there are feathers everywhere

Hawkins,
I would not worry mine are doing the same currently.
Graham = 2x Border collie Dogs, 2x Cats, 1x Wife, 2x Kids, 2x Hamsters and now 10x chickens.

Well that's just proved that there are worse topics of conversation than chicken poos.
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".
