Manure question
« on: June 22, 2008, 09:52 »
Hello everyone,

Just wondering if can i put brassicas, root veg, cucumbers and potatoes in soil that has recently been covered with fresh pigeon manure?
I should pretty much have a constant supply of pigeon manure and maybe if i can arrange it horse and goat dodo.

Is pigeon manure ok to use or should i avoid it completely?

Thanks in advance

Kerry

Hi Kezlou.

I would treat it the same as chiken manure which can some times be a little bit strong so add a little at a time but in your case just give it a good dig over. You should have no problems growing what you mentioned and as for the horse and goat manure just make sure you compost it well before adding it to the soil. Composting it will help to brake it down and so help it release all its goodness in to the soil. If you add it fresh and there is straw in it you can actually lose some of goodness when it brakes down in the soil.
I hope this is of help.

All the best.

Subaru.
Please leave things how you would like to find them.

Parsnips and carrots don't like recently-manured soil; I guess the same applies to pigeon manure as the other types of manure?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
