Hi all

I have just bought some grit for my chickens but just want to check if it is suitable as the pack has written on it Grit+Redstone. What is Redstone?

I have no idea, never heard of it, I buy grit and oyster shell

its mainly used for pigeons.

it aids digestion i think. it wont do chickens any harm. but you will still need to buy oyster shell for calcium

grit with redstone in, is also twice the price of grit with oystershell.

Thanks for the replies, I understand the need for the grit but just wondered about the redstone, the grit size is about 5mm. also am I correct in thinking that if my chickens have constant access to layers pellets that they should get enough calcium or do I have to feed additional oyster shell. I have seen oyster shell on the forum also referred to as oestra. Cannot seem to locate any oestra.

you do need poultry grit as even with layers pellets they  can and will lay soft shell eggs or have other probs
