Iv got two trays of Cos lettuce seeds, put in about 10 days ago, and nothing is happening.

Ive also got two contradictory bits of advice about getting them to germinate. One source says they need light and in a green house, the other says less light and more moisture.

Anyone know how to get them moving ?

Certainly don't need a greenhouse.

I sow mine direct outside about 1/4 inch deep so they don't need light,or heat. :D

Early season I start them in the greenhouse. This time of year they're quite happy outside.

I never sow straight into the ground, just a pinch in a plant pot every couple of weeks provide more than enough for transplanting & the packet of seed lasts years!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I start mine in the conservatory.  I transplant when they are about 2-3" high.  They like me spring onions are slow this year though for me.

Yes, they are the odd one of needing light, so don't plant them deep, they just go dormant and keep them moist. Also, germ readily declines above 22C, so no greenhouse this time of year.

I can't stop mine germinating .... far too many

I didn't realise how many I'd sown ... so have LOADS on the go, all at differnt stages, at least though. I did them outside in trays, then transplanted to the plot when big enough.
