I'm growing kale for the first time this year and have quite a few healthy seedlins in trays. Any idea how many should I plant out to keep a family of 4 in greens over the winter?

This will hugely depend, how much other winter crop you have, we grow 4-8 plants as with other stuff, if you want to rely on them only, you probably need 2-3 times that much. Also depends which one, kale - simple - will grow once cut in mild spells, so you get more out of them, than the very tasty handsome tuscan ones, you need more of them than the other.

Suppose to follow on from gobs, I have in 13 nero-di-tuscana (black tuscan), 7 Redbor (red curly) and 6 dwarf curly green, thats for three of us.
