purple brocolli leaves have gone yellow
« on: June 01, 2008, 22:36 »
1st time for dipping my toe in to the world of blog advise, it looks like there is plenty of it out there in this big www virtual allotment

My 4 week old PS brocolli and cavalo nero leaves have all gone yellow and blotchy: i think it was due to leaving them for too long in a hot greenhouse? (i went away for 3 hot days last week) am i right ?? I have taken them all out to harden off and hopefully get better. i have removed the dead/yellow leaves and hope they will recover to plant out when i have room following the end of the broad beans

Anything else i can do to save them ??

Hi dirtynails & welcome.

You may well be right with the cause of the problem. Brassicas should never really see a warm/hot greenhouse. They are plants designed to take much lower temperatures. Were they watered whilst you were away?

Mine are started off earlier in the year in a cold greenhouse & then go outside at the second leaf stage.

As they say, your plants have two chances!

I would, as a back up, be inclined to get some seed in quick, these mature late in the year/next year so they have quite a bit of growing time still.

You could germinate them in the geenhouse to give them a good start, but get them outside as soon as they come through.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
