violent hen!
« on: May 29, 2008, 09:54 »
My hens have spent all their lives together and since we got them at easter (as adults not chicks) they have got on fine....very different personalitys but fine...today however I heard a terrible noise and on investigating found one hen crouching in the corner of the hen house and another pecking violently and noisily at her.  the crouching hen was making no attempt to retaliate.

I seperated the hens and put one in a small run, she was furious and paced noisily around, the other sat quietly in the "house" did not lay, just came out.

I have reunited them in the garden and all seems well.

What was it all about?

Incidently the one being attacked is the one who I would have said was the more stroppy of the two usually!

Maybe the worm (hen) turned ?
Got fed up with her stroppiness and told her to shut up in no uncertain terms !!

Or you've been letting her watch violence on the TV and it's had a bad influence on her.

Or something else.

They should tucked up with their teddies. Babe's are I'm sure.

I wonder if it is a power reversal and she's having to go overboard to reinforce her new position.

Maybe ?

Or not. For an animal reputed to be stupid they have a very complex social setup. Maybe they're smarter than we think.
