Spinach Question
« on: May 25, 2008, 20:24 »
My daughter has asked me to grow some spinach. I have grown the perpetual type but she is not keen on this.
Is there a variety that you could recommend?
And is there still time to sow?

Thanks

Elaine

I'm trying oriental as I'm pretty sure this is the type I ate in Iran.
It was yummy with yoghourt and a sprinkle of cinnamon too.  :o
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Interestingly, I'm sowing some Indian spinach this year, as all they do just run to seed really.

Gotya, hot country = drought tolerant = slow to bolt.  You could be right but they irrigate by flooding the fields. . .

I sowed NZ spinach and no germination at all     Had consistently good results from BORDEAUX (Dobies Seeds) and MATADOR. The bordeaux is exotic looking stuff, having purpley red midrips and the leaves are arrow shaped and can get very big. I eat the small leaves and give the big ones to the hens

Spin. Matador is a standard dark green one. No bolting with that one at all.  Famous last words  8)
