If he takes to it as well as my mum (83 years old, had two hip hops done under local anaesthetic within 12 months of each other, never looked back) you need to conserve all your energy for keeping up with him once the op's over  :D  Good luck!
Nobody said this was going to be easy ... but some days are better than others!

Forget conserving energy ... get yourself a skateboard

Is he having local or GA?  Couldn't believe it when the consultant told Mum she could have it with an epidural - she took in her CD player & her headphones, was conscious throughout, and recovery time was superb ... highly recommended!

Ah, well of course he is a man ... they have a much lower suffering threshold than the rest of the human species

Must admit I didn't like the sound of it ... then a I realised that I'd spent longer than that in the dentist's chair having things drilled and pulled (sorry!) - she did have a sedative so wasn't completely alert, but she was just so relieved not to have to face a GA at her age, and the music drowned out everything she needed it to.  Apart from the inane and repetitive conversation of the other ladies on her ward when they all came back from their ops ...
