Water and Feeding advice
« on: May 07, 2008, 20:10 »
Im getting a bit confused with watering and feeding. Some veg dont need much watering, some need it every day, some need feeding when fruit is forming , some need it every week, some can be killed off if watered/ fed too often. Please can someone help. :D
Oh for those halcyon days of England long ago

What you growing Ruby ?

Toms like watering well but don't feed until they set their 1st truss, this i use as a general guide line for peppers, aubergine's cukes etc

Hello rich, Today I will be mainly growing Tomatoes, Brassicas. Carrots (do i feed them) beans , all types. The trouble is I make up a watering can full and just give everything some. I use seaweed concentrate on everything. Then I give toms and fruit trees tomorite. But I havent got any flowers on anything yet. Im sure I read with watering peas that you dont do it till they are flowering. Its a bit confusing.    :?

Yes it can be, I water everything if it looks as though it needs it, lots of water then leave for days,  not a splash every day does no good at all that way the roots stay near the top and dry out quicker. Peas I water like everything else.  I do no good at all with brassicas    just cant get the hang of 'em, I wouldn't bother feeding carrots.

I was thinking about this today.....
Im only able to get to my (raised) bed about once or twice a week at the moment, and unfortunately, havent been able to go down to water my new peas, pumpkin and sunflowers (everything is at home ready to be planted in next time I go down)
Who is of the mind to water, water, water when required
OR
just leave without watering after planting so they grow a good root system to seek out the water under the soil?
