Shady and sunny greenhouses
« on: May 05, 2008, 11:13 »
I have two empty greenhouses on my plots, one is a little shady while the other is in a sunny spot and I was wondering which crops to put where. I have some sweet peppers and some cucumbers and wondered which should go where. I imagine the sweet peppers would be better in the sunny one, but do cucumbers tollerate partial shade well? Should I try to cram them all into the sunny one? Perhaps there are suggestions for crops in a partialy shaded greenhouse?

David :)

I think I'd try the cukes in the partially shaded one I find the leaves scorch easily, in fact you could try everything in both see what performs best, you will have to shade the one in full sun in the summer anyway with something like coolglass.

You need to shade sunny greenhouses?!! I've never heard of that before.

Please tell me more, as this is my first year with a greenhouse....

They can get too hot even with all the doors and windows open, coolglass is a paint on white wash that you apply on the outside of the glass to help keep it cooler I only use it on the south facing sides.
