A couple of weeks ago I had to go into one of my chicken pens to see to a broody hen and her eggs. There's straw on the floor and I started to itch almost as soon as I knelt down.I was bitten to death in a very short length of time by something living in the straw. My legs were bitten to bits and they were a mess for a week or more.
I sprayed ant powder all over the straw in order to sort out what I thought were fleas.
I've just been in again and had my suspicions confirmed, a couple of fleas were on my trousers straight away. I've now retreated to consider my options. The bath is running as we speak.
I use to treat cat flea infestations for a living, and I reckon thats what the little blighters are. Some of the local cats have been sleeping on the straw bales in the barn.
I've had lice and mite on my chickens but this is the first time that I've had something specifically waiting to feed on me . The b******s have got to go.
