New Chickens
« on: April 28, 2008, 11:05 »
We have had 2 chickens for just over a year now, and they always got along really well. Sadly one of them had to be put down recently.

We got two new chickens yesterday and I'm concerned about our older chicken as she seems to have taken a dislike to one of the new ones, pecking at her head and comb (strangely she doesn't seem bothered by the other one). As I am worried what might happen if I put them all in the run together the older chicken is currently out in the garden whilst the newbies are shut in the run - but there will come a time when they will all need to be in the run together. Does anyone have any tips on how to stop the bullying??

Many thanks

it'll happen.  just let it take its course.  twice i've introduced new chickens to the residents hens, its unpleasant for a few days but then calms down.  best if you can let them free range together for a while.  mine still have a peck at the new ones and i've had the latest ones 6 weeks
