Daft question about the colour of peas
« on: April 29, 2008, 20:58 »
This might be a really dumb question but last year I bought a pack of peas from Wilkinsons and the peas were green.  Then this week I went into my local small nursery shop and they had peas which were pinkish red.  I queried this with the shop owner who said they were coloured with an antifungal.  As I like buying things from this shop as its not a chain store and family run I bought a pints worth for a pound.  Does anyone know if this antifungal however is safe/organic??  :?

I bought some this year from a country store shop weighed out by the ounce. They were coloured pink.
I beieve it used to be a mouse repellant but someone might correct me on that.
Anyway they are 2inches through the ground now and looking good.

I don't know, but wouldn't think they were organic. All treatments though are used on seed - mostly fungicidal - without telling the buyer, which I don't much like, today I sowed some very pink squash seeds.

As long as they taste good I would say go for it. Buying by the pint is cheaper than paying postage etc, plus you are saving milage and supporting locally owned shops !! Give yourself a pat on the back and stop worrying.
I know less today than I did yesterday, and I knew nothing then!
