cow dung, 5 years old
« on: April 19, 2008, 13:48 »
We've just taken over the goat's enclosure as a small allotment...our landlady assures us he has gone to a good home, but as we live in rural France one has to wonder??  Anyhow, I digress.
We are in the middle of de-turfing said plot and she came and offered all the cow muck we could want. My question is, can it be used over all the soil, to be turned in with the rotivator, or are there some vegetables which would not profit?

We have had a very wet winter here, but at the end of this moon, the farmer assures us that spring will come...

Merci beaucoup
Lorna

Bonjour!

Most veg would profit from a bit of well rotted muck like that, but avoid root crops, (carrots, parsnips etc.) like the plague, unless you like forked veg.

Spuds are not a root crop & would love it.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

carrots and parsnips don't need it but the rest of the veg will love it I'm sure. five years old so it should be well rotted. You can rotovate it, lightly fork it in or just leave it on the top for the worms to take down, which they will do eventually  :D
