Basil mmmm... but problem??
« on: April 14, 2008, 20:40 »
Grown some lovely basil from seed, Suddenly black spots are appearing on the larger leaves, no sign of any creatures??
Anyone know what this might be
After all the effort, first lot failed, as did third lot.

Any ideas?

No, black spot is not commonly associated with basil as it it just does not commonly happen.

Have you a photo, maybe?

basil is the most beastly of herbs to grow :x   if you want to grow it easily
just go to tesco or waitrose etc,  buy   a couple of plants in the herb section take them home -put in larger pot and   walla!   thet last all summer  getting larger by the week-  thats the best solution i have found for growing basil..  if this doesn't work look up Dr. Denise the plant doctor in north london and she will help you out--

Mine grew like mad last year, raised from seeds in the cold frame and then planted out amongst me toms. The plants lasted for ages and I gave loads away at work as well.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
