Celeriac gemination?????
« on: April 13, 2008, 20:35 »
Hello,

I got two trays of compost with celeriac seed sown into them in the heated propagator and it's been over two weeks now and there's nowt showing except for two seedlings which look completely different from each other. One is tiny, the other is like a tomato seedling. I'm certain that I haven't waterlogged the compost, or sown the seed too thickly or deeply, so I'm at a loss as to what's going on... Do they take a particularly long time to germinate? Is my heated propagor too hot for them (it has no control on it and probably averages at about 25 degrees C)? How big are the seedlings? So many questions....  :?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

It's probably way too hot low or mid teens of C should do it, just put them in a window sill of a not too cold room in the house.

Germinated mine in about 4 days in a seed tray in the bedroom window. Seed only needs to be very lightly covered and seedlings are tiny when they emerge.

As Gobs said - may have been too hot, not everything is suited to a heated propagator.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Mine germinated in about 5 days. The 2ns leaf now looks like celery / flat leaf parsley leaf. Just left it by the windowsill under a plastic lid.
