Right then. Call me stoopid    but.....

...can chooks eat breakfast cereal with a bit of milk ??

Specifically weetabix mini things with fruit and nut.

I'm thinking sugar and milk as the main sticking points but Thought I'd ask before giving it to the dog.

They souldn't have too much sugar Rob.  And I'm fairly certain they don't digest lactose so it could give them the trotts.  Having said that I do recommend live yoghurt for hens who've had antibiotics.

That's what I suspected.

Especially after the last day or two. Don't want anymore upsets.

I'll give it to the dog. He CAN digest anything thrown his way ('cept choc of course!) and will be a happy woofer.

Thanks Aunt Sal.

We used to give our chucks porridge either dry or mixed with a little water as a treat in the afternoon  :) They loved it.

The ducks have started to enjoy it too now

How do they hold the spoon ?

Gonna have to start spoiling them a bit more. Now the evenings are longer they should get their fill of pellets by teatime and all we do is lob a mugfull of mixed corn in.

Must be boring for them.

Need an assault course with a food reward at the end. I've got something in mind but need the time to put it into action.

mine go metal for corn on the cob, but whatever you do, dont cut it off for them... its a nightmare trying to get them back to picking it off themselves

fresh cut nice big cauliflowers also give them a bit of a challenge, as they have to get through the leaves before the nice white centre.

there are lots of fresh food you can give them to keep them from getting bored, and when summers over you can pick up bargain slides and swings from argos

Swings and slides...now that's my kind of thinking !!  8)

We're growing some sweetcorn but I'm hoping we'll be eating it ourselves.
Might be worth negotiating an arrangement with a greengrocer to have all his old stuff. Not even sure we've got one round here. Have to try late on market day. They must chuck loads.

Cheers for the ideas.

Chickens ay. Who'd 'ave 'em ???

porridge, apples, pears, cheerios, bannanas, bread pudding, you name it ours will eat it, suprising how high they can leap when you have a bowl of goodies for them!! One tried my finger the other day but soon left it alone!!
Happiest in the countryside.

My fingers have become quite a delicacy !

They don't nip as hard as they did so I think it's just testing out to see if there's anything nice on them.

I give mine a bowl of muesli with just a few drops of water mixed to take the dryness off. They go mad for it at night. I started giving it to them when we had frosty nights but they get it most nights now. Just the smart save stuff from ASDA.
Oh for those halcyon days of England long ago

Does it have a lot of added sugar ?
I'm a bit bothered about over feeding. Our dog and cat are a good healthy weight because we never feed them 'extras' but I don't really know the rules for chooks.
They have pellets at all times but presumably as long as they have those exclusively until about 6, it wouldn't hurt to have some high energy food to get them through the night. Or will they just get fat and stop laying ?

Just gone to look for you. 7 grams in 50grams of muesli but it may come from the raisins and sultanas. As an occasional treat it wont harm surely. I give them that at night rather than the corn. They only have pellets and greens during the day.

I reckon if it's only every so often anyway it shouldn't matter diddly squat.

Maybe start them off on the porridge. I might be able to persuade my OH to make me some while she's doing theirs !

How chauvinistic is that ??!!

Or I could do it if I really have to !
