A really really bad tempered hen!!!
« on: April 06, 2008, 15:38 »
Got a young light sussex yesterday who is supposed to be showing signs of broodiness. She is in with the other birds and intermittently sits on eggs but easily frightened off them. She is so anxious to get away from hens or me that she has tried a couple of times to fly through a door!! She has the heckles on her neck up all the time. Have never had this sort of trauma with a new bird to the group.

Do you think that this is settling  in probs (although never experienced before) or do you think that broodiness is playing a part? I either case not sure what to do with it. Can't have a hen trying to bash its way out of the hen house every time anybody looks in her direction.

Thanks in advance for any advice on the subject

You only got the hen yesterday, its bound to be unsure and upset by its new surroundings. Give it sometime to settle in.
