Hi leemap

I am thinking about asparagus, but haven’t made my mind up yet, the books recommend 45cm (18in) between plants and 30cm (12in) between rows

hope this helps
Paul

Hi ,i have just planted 10 crowns in a bed 5ft x 12ft. I planted 2 rows of 5,each 18" apart in rows 3ft apart.You may get away with 5 plants spaced like this.
                     *                                  *

                                          *

                     *                                   *

Allow 3ft between plants and 2 ft between rows.Dont know if this will solve your problem.Remember you need to trench them

Ours are spaced about a foot apart all around in the best soil we could make for them and they do fine. We  just don't walk on the asparagus bed at all which is where the real problems start. In a 4x4 bed, you can squeeze them in a bit tighter and have access on all 4 sides for easy picking.
