Flubenvet feeding regime
« on: March 25, 2008, 19:14 »
Started flubenvet on Sunday. Used the grape method but it started a riot so I've gone over to the bulk feed method.

Made up 1kg with a 3/4 level (small) teaspoon of flubenvet. Mixed very well.
Expected to have some left over this evening but the pggies have scoffed the lot.

Should I restrict the amount I put in the feeder each day ?
OR
take the feeder away for part of the day (maybe 11-3) ?
OR
just let them eat as much as they want ?

Plus they're having half a mug of corn late afternoon this week. Normally a whole mug.

Just a reminder we've got 6 of Grannie's Amberlinks.
I don't want to overdose them nor starve them.

How much feed do they normally eat in a week Rob  :?:

I would think they should eat about 100g per day each.  6 birds = 600g per day.

The recommendation is 1.2g Flubenvet per 1kg of feed.  This should be fed for 7 consecutive days.

600g per day x 7 days = 4.2kg

The bigger the bird the more they will need and the more they will also eat so that is balanced out.

The quantitiy is not very critical Rob !

Hope that helps  :D

We normally just keep the hopper topped up so, with spillages, it's been hard to keep a check.
I'm sure there hasn't been much spillage today so they've been happy to eat about 150g each or more.
Plus a bit of corn !

I don't think they're overwieght but it may take a while. Will their crops grow as their appetites increase or are they pretty much fixed ?
I don't mind them eating a lot as long as it's not harming them.

I might try withdrawing the feeder during the early afternoon.

Thanks Auntie  :)

Mine have pellets available to them ALL day long.  I think that is a fairly normal practice.  They do free range for a big part of the day and go back to their run to top up on pellets.

Ok. That's put my mind at rest.

I'll leave things as they are and just make sure they don't get too humungous !! (I don't want to worsen Boston's reputation   )

Thanks again.  :D
