A spot of breeding.

There's quite a lot of people who  fancy having chickens that lay blue or green eggs these days. Have you ever thought about breeding your own birds ?

Its something that I've thought about but never had the time or inclination to do, but I maybe able to have a try at it next year. I believe that the key will be a breed of chicken known as an Aracuna. This breed of bird is known for its ability to lay blue eggs but I think I'm also correct in saying that they don't lay many of them either.
What I'd like to do is get my hands on an Aracuna male and then run him with some good egg laying hens. Going on the hypothisis that it might be easier to colour light coloured eggs, I think I might be tempted to select something like a Light Sussex or one of the high performance white hybrids, if you can still get these that is.
I'm not sure what crossing the Aracuna with  a dark brown egg layer such as a Maran or a Wellsummer would bring. The trait within them  for brown egg laying could possibly be too strong.
This  could be an interesting project for the future don't you think ? Has anyone on here already done anything similar ?
