We've got a coq....for free!
« on: March 12, 2008, 10:07 »
Im so excited. OH went to the market this morning to return a gold watch to the chicken lady, that she dropped in the box with my last 3 girls. He was going to get a coq anyway as a surprise, but the lady wouldnt take any money for him. They are usually 13 euros.
He is just so beautiful, orange, deep reddy orange and white. Im going to take photos weather permitting today.
He has been named Monty, after my favourite cricketer! The name seems to suit him.
Im just hoping that he settles in well, and is not to violent. He is gorgeous though!

OH's birthday, so its pressies all round!

Hope your girls love him and that he starts off gently with them! Bit of a shock when the first cockerel arrives, especially if your ladies are moving towards middle ages! Mine hated our first cockerel, as he was a real thug, but Buster is far more gentle and they love him!...so do we!

Good luck with your bargain cockerel!

Judi

Really worried...went out to check all the chooks were in, and Monty was nowhere to be seen. Went round with the torch, no sign. He was knocking at the back door earlier in the evening, asking to come in. I think he must have taken the hump. I really hope we havent lost him already, he is such a looker, and he has settled in so well with the girls. He was kissing them, beak to beak this afternoon!

FOUND HIM!! Went round the fields again and eventually found him just over the fence in our neighbours, fast asleep and SNORING in a box. I managed to pick him up, gave him a good telling off for worrying me, and put him to bed with the girls.
At least I will sleep tonight.

By the way, do they cockle doodle do from any particular age? Monty's voice is quite deep, but weve had no crowing yet.

Glad to hear you found him.  Just like a bloke to go walkabout and have us all in a worry.  (Feel I may get a few comments from the blokes on here!)

Well done you

Claire
