Wow!!!!!! First egg!!!

:D  :D  :D  :D  :D

This morning we got our first egg!!!  :D

Unfortunately, alan (when removing the nest box lid) dropped a pebble (which blocks up a pea sized draught hole) on top of it and cracked it

Next thing i know, he comes running through the kitchen door like a whirlwind, the broken egg cupped in his hand and plonked it into a bowl.

After picking out a couple of bits of hay and dirt   i scrambled it for him, and he thoroughly enjoyed it!  :D

Who do you reckon laid it though  :?

Our other chooks who got got by the fox came from the same breeder as chooky. Their eggs were always a dark beige/mid brown colour and smoth.

This egg was the same colour, but with white spots all over it  :?

Chooky is 24 weeks old, and mabel and gertrude are almost 20 weeks old. So i'm assuming it was chooky, but the colour makes me wonder  :?

Anyway... roll on more eggs! Wooooo  :D
Trying to live the good life.. getting there slooooowly...

Congrats to Chooky Beki!  Are the white spots actually spots, or are they calcium deposits?  One of mine lays eggs covered with white bits, but its defo calcium and not spots!

Hmmm.. you might be right! I've just felt it, and the spots stand proud of the shell slightly. It almost feels roungh when you run your finger over it.

Do calcium deposits = a problem?  :?

Congrats Beki !

We've had 2 or 3 with those pale specks on too.
Would be interested to know why it happens on some and not others.

Rob

Giving away a dozen today when we go visiting. Already making up the loss this morning. Well done girls.  :D
