What is the best way to grow these ?
In either a small container (i.e the smallest they can fit into to) and repot as neccessary or a big container and let them grow into it.
A book I have says 15 inch diameter is good for Gooseberries, 18 inch for Blackcurrants.

Personally I wouldn't grow them in containers, but then I've the luxury of a garden with space to grow them in the ground.

They will develop a prolific root system and you will be forever watering and feeding them or risk minimal / no fruit. If you have no choice but to grow in pots go for the biggest you can, and try not to repot too often as this will also temporarily stunt growth, unless done in the autumn / winter (when they're dormant).

You will also need to be keeping them well pruned, and watch out for the pots themselves freezing in very cold weather, they might need to be wrapped.

As always someone else will likely come up with a different idea, but good luck.
