I've really excited, after many years I have finally got a gooseberry bush  :D ,  I chose 'invicta' because it said it was quite a sweet taste.  I spend a couple of hours Sunday morning pulling nettles out of a corner of my allotment and planted it in, watered and manured.

does anyone know if it is usual to get a reasonable crop year 1, or is it another of these fruits that might give me 1 if I'm lucky and wait until next year for any pies. :?:       :D

I've just put in quite a few fruit bushes, I'm not expecting anything this year to be honest.
I've fertilised them to insanity and may even prune any fruit that tries to form this year, they're only small right now so I'm trying to encourage growth, in the hope of heavier crops in the future.
We use chemicals in this garden, just as god intended
