Before and afters of the paddock opening from our garden..  This is all very heavy clay - we dug a pond (pics to follow) which doesnt need lining..

Lovely piece of land.

I dare say if you hammer a post in one end of the field you can feel the ground rippling at the other !

I wish you luck with the work. At least you saved on the pond liner. Maybe just make a HUGE lake and keep ducks ?  :roll:

Definitely a nice piece of land.
I'd be tempted to hire in a person with a mini digger machine and dig open a number of 2-3ft (1M) deep beds which you could fill in with good soil brought in and mixed with a bit of your clay (which is always good for retaining water).
It's an upfront expense, but worth it if your soil is as bad as you say and also a back saver, not to mention time saver. Getting a quote doesn't mean you've signed the dotted line.
