Is it ok for the hens to be ´attacked´ by Colin all the time, the poor things are minding their own business and on to them jumps Colin, he does his job, after forcing their heads to the ground while he does it!  :shock: Yesterday a hen was just inches from us and all of a sudden Colin jumped her, poor thing was certainly squarking (hen not Colin) He is massive, he looks like he is squashing them :shock:  They don´t get a minutes peace when he is about (only when he is sunbathing).

How many hens does Colin "look after"  :?:

He has the 5 big girls, 2 are around a year and the other 3 are about 8 months old there are 5 new hens too, not laying yet though, their combs are still very tiny.
Is that too many for him to deal with?  I´ve not noticed him look at the new hens, apart from to chase them.

Colin really had a go at one of the bigger hens a little while ago, she ran off screaming abuse at him. He just flew at her and pecked her.  :shock:  He leaves the young hens alone, has nothing to do with them, that I have noticed. Any suggestions? other than selling him for 6€ a kilo  :roll:

PS they have got a biggish orchard to roam about, with around 14 trees, they are not in a small area.

Muntjac recomends 1 cockerel to about 12 hens I belive, and he means "active" hens. So if Colin is only "active" with 5 at present no wonder they are swearing at him

So hopefully once the younger hens become ´active´ Colin, or his harem will be happier  Just off to shut them in for the night,  the new ones mostly go in, one decided to roost in a tree the other night  then managed to get onto the top of the hen house roof :shock: Daft whatsit  couldn´t get back down
