Has anybody tried it?
This bungalow is very well insulated and stays warm overnight even when the heating is off. So was thinking of sowing a smaller variety, now as an experiment..
Any thoughts???

I’m sure I saw a post on here of someone doing that, but the plant looked very drawn as the light levels are so much lower over winter, but did have some small fruit on it. I think they took cuttings off it in the spring.

You’d need to provide loads of light of the right wavelengths.  They need about 8 hours or more of sunshine to produce fruit.  I use growlights in the greenhouse to boost growth in spring; they might help during winter too if the temperature is good.

I grow tomatoes on my window sill in early spring, the light levels for me in north Cumbria would be too low over winter, I think.  I grow a variety called House from real seeds. It takes the pressure off getting the greenhouse tomatoes going. This year, when the greenhouse toms were  so very late they were particularly welcome.

I did this one year, Mum, and kept a couple of plants going through the winter on a cill in a warm sunny room!

They were very spindly by the time they were due to go in the GH in the Spring, and because of the risk of them getting cold, it was a big gamble, so I rather gave up on the idea, as the others caught up very easily!

You could take the side-shoots, and use those as new plants, but there again, you might only get a week or so ahead for all that effort!

(And I'm giving up on Sungold next year, the skins have been like leather and most of them split)!

Not over wintered as such but I can normally still get fruit off tomatoes and sweet peppers in February in a conservatory.

It my be too late to do this season, but if you can get a "patio size" variety started in a pot and grow it to setting fruit by late summer / early autumn, you have a good chance of being able to keep the fruit going and having it ripen in autumn to early winter.

I did this last winter (2023) and posted about it in my diary page. The difference is my potted plants stayed outdoors under the shelter of polythene tarp. I had tomatoes into mid January. They got colder than the indoor space you mentioned, but mine might have gotten more light.

Good luck if you try it!🙂
