Utilities time again.
« on: August 15, 2024, 17:22 »
My fixed rate is ending. Scottish power want to up my monthly DD by just over 50% which Im not overly impressed with. Looking at the paperwork it appears the majority of that is down to a 3 fold increase in standing charge for electricity  Has anyone seen any decent fix rates for relatively low use lately?

I’ve just switched my OVO account from variable to fixed rate for a year.

I’m currently paying the same, but with price rises forecast for the autumn and who knows what after that, I would rather know what the bills will be. It is also the first fixed rate they have offered me which isn’t quite a bit more expensive than I have paid on variable.

The unit charges are slightly higher than the current variable rate, but the standing charges are lower. You do have to agree to a smart meter or already have one though.

Their on-line app lets you submit meter readings monthly and analyse your usage by £ or units month by month and compare year to year. It should save me money as a relatively low user. They reckon £140pa, but we will see

I’m with Octopus energy and via the app can see what they’re charging me for electricity each half hour. So dishwasher, washing machine & God forbid tumble dryer only get on accordingly. It has saved me money since I joined it 6 months ago on the recommendation of my son. Some times they pay me to use it, then everything gets washed & put on  :D

I'm also with Octopus and decided on a fixed rate so glad I did as prices are set to rise yet again.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I went with EDF last year, and had to have a Smart meter fitted. It has failed to work properly ever since. It tells them what I've used but the home screen is blank, so doesn't help me. Several complaints have fallen on deaf ears.  >:(
However when I've done comparisons, I seem to be on a fairly good deal, so I'll stay put - for now

I fixed for myself and my mum yesterday, for the next year. Prices were so high a year ago, she should now be paying less monthly than then.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
