Site owners?
« on: August 20, 2024, 10:58 »
Thought it might be interesting to get an idea of who owns the land you use as allotments. I think it would be divided into the following:
a) Council
b) Private landowner (often part of an Estate)
c) Church
d) The plot holders themselves
e) In Trust

None of the above!  It is very complicated.
Our allotment is part of the Lady Hill Charitable Trust, established in 1917 to provide pleasure gardens (park) and allotments for the use of the people of Bradford in perpetuity.
The sole trustee of the charity is Bradford Council, but they do not own the land.
We self manage the site under a service level agreement with the Council, approved by the Charity Commission.

Under this arrangement our allotments are better protected from development than a statutory allotment.

I nearly added Trust as an option but would have liked the original ownership.  Thanks for replying.
