Can anybody tell me what this insect is please? I saw a couple on my runner beans when they were small. I couldn't get a decent picture of them. They don't seem to be causing any damage. But this one is quite big and looks quite ominous! See photos.

Shield bug? ( punaise in french). Shouldn’t cause any crop damage.

I agree with missmoneypenny: -
Its Nezara viridula, Southern Green Shieldbug. They go through several stages before being a green shieldbug one of which is as per your photographs. Imported from Africa apparently.

Shield bugs are beneficial.  They eat aphids.
