How do you take cuttings?
« on: August 06, 2024, 10:30 »
I am keen to add growing cuttings to my repertoire but wondered if anyone more seasoned could advise on kit.

My idea is to carry a small scalpel when out and about and some ziploc bags with moist compost to keep the cut stems in good condition. Then I guess transfer to a cool and light place until roots show and the plants are ready for potting. Does that sound about right?

It is often suggested to take cuttings earlier in the day, and to pot up as soon as possible.

As MoS indicates, different plants have different requirements about how you take them and care for them afterwards, but frequently the compost needs to be fairly open so the cutting doesn't rot off.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
