I'm buying my niece some rhubarb for her birthday so which one would you recommend for cooking and what is the best place and way to plant it?

I like Timperly Early. As it suggest it is an early cropper and good for forcing.
Rhubarb Crumble and custard
Slowly simmered with a bit of water and sugar until al dente then served with double cream.

You may not have much success at this time of the year - I think they do better when planted in a more dormant season (and then not harvested for a year or perhaps more, to allow it to build strength).

So you may need to print off a photo and give her that with an IOU until later in the year!
