I have free range girls (approx 35 )and some don't come into their boxes to lay.  I try to track down where they are laying but as my girls are very clever and scurry away so I can't find them I am wondering if they cackle before or after they have laid. They have 10 acres to roam so want an easier way of finding their loot!!!!  can some one help me please.

I always thought they shout during and just after as an announcement of their cleverness.

Mine tend to announce that they are just about to or just have

Mine definately announce after they've laid...but, this sets the others off so you could be fooled and follow the wrong one! Hard to shut in until they've laid as some of my younger ones don't lay till after lunch so, you'd be reducing their day and thus the number of eggs you get!

Why not just fence off a smaller area so the eggs are easier to find?

Good luck!  maybe an Easter "egg hunt" for real eggs this year!!

Hi Joyfull... I wish I could give you a definate answer but mine yell before and after .. Mind you, with ten acres, you'd have to be quick to follow the racket anyway wouldnt you?! Lucky you with all that land..
