Strawberry maintenance
« on: October 29, 2023, 09:50 »
Hi
Is it too late to give the strawberries a haircut??
I planted late last year and so now they have grown and are looking healthy. No brown leaves yet.
So is it too early to haircut and feed?

Thanks
Twood

Good morning twood,  I gave mine a severe trim about 6 weeks ago and they look as though they could do with another.  How about trimming half of your plants back?

Cheers,  Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

At this time of year I’d leave them alone and let them get through winter before feeding in the spring once they come into flower. Feeding now will just get washed out of the soil over winter. Remove any brown or dying leaves, but they’ll need the healthy leaves to get through winter as strong plants ready to crop heavily next year. You can give them them a haircut next year once they’ve finished cropping if you want to tidy things up.

Thanks Tony and Nobbie for your replies. Essentially I should have cut them back earlier. I'll remember that next year!!
