weeds weeds and more weeds
« on: August 18, 2023, 13:29 »
I don't know if its just my plots but these plots are covered in weeds we lifted our onions the other day and despite weeding them throughout the season the weeds took over in the past weeks although the weeds never effected the onions we had good sized bulbs couldn't complain about the crop but weeds

so before I attempt to plough the plots I'm going to spray both plots with Roundup next week that should give me a breathing space for the weeds to die off prior to spreading my manure and ploughing the ground
so have weeds been a problem on your plots ?

A gent down at my allotment has a plot that is usually pristine. This year even his is covered in weeds(as is mine even after hoeing weekly). It must've been the perfect conditions this year across the country

I've had a lot of chickweed this year so agree with the above.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Ha Goosegirl so I don't have all the chickweed in the world then - but I did move an awful lot of it today.  ;)

Had lots of weeds this year, was trying to compost by removing flowers and roots but after 2wk holiday took 8 full to bursting bags to the tip and they are still coming.
Bit late spraying the mairs tail which is mainly controlled to just edges but didn't get 2-3 days of dry weather until last week so hoping it still weakens the horrid stuff.
Bought additional weed suppressant to cover all unused beds and hopefully cut down on the weeds from wind dispersal.
Seems to have been a lot of work in a year that hasn't been that productive!!!

I agree. It's been perfect condition for weeds this summer.

Remember: One year's seeding is seven years' weeding.

Bad year for weeds here as well, spent 3 hours on Saturday weeding my onion and salad bed despite having only done this a few weeks back. On the plus side not had to water anything for weeks.
