You're right about shoving in a new bit of pipe, compression joints are cheaper than a plumber at £500.00 an hour plus VAT!

It's difficult to see how it could have been anything else other than freezing. But it was really well insulated though, other sections of pipe were far more exposed and show now signs of bulging, this was a longish section of horizontal pipe if that makes a difference ? Not sure - I'm not a plumber
The other executor is being difficult about things and has offered £130 towards the repairs, I'm not sure what's best now. My back of fag packet calculations have the damage between £5-6000 to make good. I really do mean it was flooded, the entire bungalow was in standing water and had been for a while, the carpet underlay just disintegrated when I tried to lift it.
