Plum grafts
« on: May 21, 2023, 14:37 »
I have bud grafts grown from last season and the stems are green with brown mottling, can anyone tell me if this is normal and maybe the stem is transitioning to a normal plum tree colour or is there something wrong ?

I had this problem last year with an old inherited apple tree and finally dug it up. The others and the single plum tree are fine. Any signs of insects, sticky stuff on the leaves, and are the brown areas rotting or gone crisp?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I have managed to keep ahead of any ant and aphid activity this year so there’s no sticky stuff from them.
I noticed a little shot hole in a few of the terminal buds this year but not on these new grafts.
I noticed that after a minimal pruning of a few branches for the first time there is the odd random pea sized sap ooze that hasn’t been there before but I’m hoping that’s a reaction to the pruning or the present environment!
