Strawberries
« on: February 21, 2008, 20:14 »
Am watching Jamie on TV at the moment and he's dealing with strawberries. I've got my strawberries on order and will be here soon. I've grown them in the open ground before but the slugs got more than me. This year I was thinking of trying those hanging bags or even a hanging basket. Has anyone does this? Does it work? I know they will need more watering but can the slugs be bothered to travel that far to get them. Is this a fool proof way of growing strawberries easier?

Sounds a good pudding that, brandy basket?

They would need acres of watering and feeding being the only catch.

slugs were eating my strawberries as soon as they ripened ,so  last year i picked them just before they ripened and had loads of lovely strawberries that could be eaten a day or two later. Though i did leave some on to ripen so that i could eat them while they were still warm from the sun ,,, sometimes i would eat the other half of a ripe strawberry that had slug had beaten me to   still tasted yummy :D
if it grows, it grows! if it doesnt ,, ah well .. there's always next year. :-)

... I have my strawberries in pots on the patio.  Slugs have not been too bad a problem, just the thieving blackbirds    I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw one with a strawberry in its beak.  It looked at me, paused (in a blackbird way) as if it to say, "darn, she saw me" and then scuttled off with it
