Horse poo
« on: April 10, 2022, 18:25 »
Have been offered some horse poo that's about 2 years old.  It comes complete with worms and is black and crumbly.

Is it ok to tip it on my beds or should I 'mix' it in?

You can tip it on the beds and let the worms take it down, but that's usually done in the autumn, at this time of year it may just dry out if we ever get some sun..
At this time of year I'd be inclined to work it into the top layer.

I’m envious!
I think you could do either or both. Clearly you couldn’t sow small seeds in it but you could use it in various ways depending on the crop. It would be ideal to add to a bean trench if you are digging one. Just don’t try growing carrots in it.
 Enjoy!
Cheers HH
Keep digging

Thank you.

I had assumed that it would need to be  'stirred' in.  I'm going to fill the bean trench with it. Apparently I can have as much as I want because I asked nicely and took carrots fit the ponies

My mum was right!  Please and thank you are powerful words

we stack our horse manure for around  twelve months and then put it on our raised beds and we have found it very good for growing we also tend to add Growmore to the horse poo we  found it helps things to grow better but that's our way of doing things so your 2yr old poo is ideal

Either would be fine in my view if you put it on your beds I would rotovate or dig it in

I was given a cubic meter of 1 or 2 year old earlier this year my beds needed no more so I have stacked it ready for next season

Collected first batch yesterday, black, crumbly, no smell and full of worms.

Some went on the rhubarb, some in the bean trench and the rest round the fruit bushes.

Being a kind mum I've given some to my son.
