I was given a very lanky sage plant, about 18 inches tall with about 7 or 8 stems. I'd like to use it for cuttings but am not sure how. Is this the best time of year? I would say the stems are semi-ripe.
Also, is it like rosemary, i.e. the main plant won't regrow from the old wood.

old plants tend to open out in the middle soit`s easier to renew every few years.Stick 3 cuttings in a pot and cover witha plastic bag secured with elastic band.Put somewere frost free.In may/june plant out the whole pot and in a few months it will be nice and big,with 3 plants the thinning in the middle will take longer.I usually take cuttings late summer incase an exceptionally hard winter pushes it past its best.
