Grow Bag Advice
« on: February 16, 2021, 13:58 »
Hello all, new member here, with my new greenhouse arriving mid march!

Looking at getting things in place for its arrival.

Looking at grow bags for my Tomatoes and the Levington Tomorite with Seaweed appears to be a good bet. However, it appears that the shortage has boosted the price to £15 a bag!

Would a John Innes Multi Purpose compost with additional feed do the job?

Or any recomendations? As i dont fancy spending £45 + delivery for 3 grow bags!

Thanks All

Quite a few places still selling them at around a fiver on-line, but don't know whereabouts in the country you are to provide a link? Please add your location to your profile :)
Otherwise use any old multipurpose compost you can get hold of and feed them with Levington tomato feed with seaweed

I've used grow bags in the past but I find they can dry out quite quickly, so I got some grow pots from Amazingmaidzone ("Selections Set of 6 Tomato and Vegetable Growbag Pots") where you cut two holes in each grow bag (one pot for each hole), firm the pot down inside the bag then fill up with more compost or a mix of compost and John Inness soil. These particular pots also have a hole on each of the four sides so you can insert a gardening cane if needed for support, and have both an inner and outer trough for feed and water. I'm not one for faddy things but I like these ones.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

we bought 4 [westland grow bags ]the other day from our local garden centre 2 for £10.00 we definitely will not be buying any compost for £15 a bag does it contain gold dust i ask myself what a rip off

if it come to paying that sort of money for a grow bag peat free or peat i would definitely be mixing my own compost  >:( and that's good advise from Mum
