Chilli recomendation please.
« on: January 27, 2021, 19:07 »
Good evening everyone,  rain again...

Could anyone recommend a chilli/chili, not too hot but flavoursome and a nice red colour.  We had a super bumber crop of chillies a few years back and we are getting down to our last.

Cheers and thanks,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Pusa Jwala is one I would suggest.
Heat level of cayenne etc. This is India's most grown/ used chilli. I grow these every year for most dishes and smoke them, in a smoker that is lol.
Easy to grow and you will get plenty.

Arbol for me. Never too hot and excellent in a curry or chilli and make brilliant Indian style chilli pickle. Nice either green or red. Good crop of chillies but even down here I find the come late in the season.

I recommend Serrano. Heavy producer, good flavor, use the way you would use jalapenos, Serranos are hotter but smaller. You can tone down the heat of any chili pepper by removing the seeds.

Best hot sauce I've ever had was made from red Serrano chilis.

We grew Apache last year.  Hot enough that you knew they were in the dish without blowing my head off.  Supposed to be a similar heat level to Cayenne if I remember correctly.

I've gone with Aidy's choice of Pusa Jwala.  So if too hot...it's YOUR fault!

I've tried growing more than one type but only end up getting mixed up, even with labels!

Cheers,  Tony. :D

Update,  not too many seeds germinated, still we have a few!

Cheers,  Tony.

A bit late to the party, but I really recommend Palivec from Real Seeds - the same chilli is spelled slightly differently at Simpson's Seeds - Palevec.

It is a long medium heat chilli with a great flavour that is really productive and very easy to grow.  It is my favourite chilli out of the many that I grow.
