Enviromesh ??
« on: March 07, 2020, 14:37 »
Has anybody used Enviromesh I am thinking of using it on my plot for cabbages and lettuce.

With the mesh being so fine just wondering how good water/rain and sunlight will pass through it.
Intention is to make wooden frames and staple mesh to it on my raised beds.

I use it over the tubs where I grow carrots to keep the carrot fly away, works for that.

I use it over my leeks to keep the alium leaf miner out. Let's through plenty of sunshine and rainwater.

Hi I’ve used it for years for carrots & parsnips against the dreaded root fly, & I now use it for all of the alliums against the allium leaf minor. For brassicas I used to use debris netting until I realised in 2018 that I had not only stopped the cabbage whites, which was my intention, but I’d stopped the lady birds & hover flies etc that might have feasted on the mealybugs that I had an infestation of. I had been going to purchase enviromesh for the start of 2019 but with that in mind I decided to go with butterfly netting.

we have started to use enviromesh in preference to the blue insect netting as its much finer and as said it keeps the bugs out I don't know how long its supposed to last because as I said we have only just stared to use it but the blue netting has been on all winter and still looks ok

what I can't understand is that I sowed some spring onions back in the autumn in a raised bed and they where doing fine till about a week ago then  all the tops look as if there  been eaten I suspect it could  be slugs because that bed has blue insect netting secured round it

Unless you've already bought your mesh have look the big online retailer who shares a name with a river. You can get generic (less expensive) versions from them.

have used enviromesh over all my brassicas for several years supported by blue pipes. I have secured two edges to timbers and roll up to keep tight over different sized beds the end I bunch up. seems to be lasting well so far.

I have just noticed that the big online retailer you mention is charging more than another on line search  despite selling the same product!  Well worth shopping around.

I found that Amazon was also not the cheapest when I bought mine several years ago.

I got mine from Gardening Naturally.  The service and price was good and the product is lasting well.

I don't think we are banned from mentioning companies by name provided we are factual and or posts represent our own experience.

Yep carrots, leeks mainly - lasts for years if you treat it right.

Gave up on pak choi because it always ended up like swiss cheese - that's the only time environmesh didn't work for me - suspect it was some little beasties already in/on the ground.

The girl on the plot opposite uses Primark net curtains and swears they are as effective  :)

I used to get them from the charity shop to use on the plot, but they tend to rip if it is windy, but mine's a very exposed site.
